So, about 5 new people have started following me... →
Which is a tad weird given I’ve not updated here in a goodly while. So how about y’all come join me over at bakingandlife? Or have a look at my googlereader shared items? Or my stumbleupon page? All of the above will be far more fruitful if you wish to be entertained by my humble personage. :)

I’ve decided the world needs not another blog posting the dregs of the internet when the dailywh.at and 22words do such an admirable job, so go make the most of your time there if that is what tickles your fancy. I may post incredibly amusing things here from time to time, but to be honest wordpress is totally where it’s at: see bakingandlife.wordpress.com for yummy recipes and...

I'm not a feminist, but reserve the right to be...
For some reason, apparently I’ve acquired the title of “feminist” in some people’s eyes. Despite getting annoyed at guys constantly cracking out the old “women should be in the kitchen” chestnut all the time, and having done my advanced higher English “dissertation” on “Angela Carter’s use of fairy tales to explore female...

Meaningless Tshirts - What's the point? →
An amusing site documenting the plethora of tshirt and other clothing slogans with logos which are utterly devoid of meaning. Ever wondered just what was the draw of LA Athletics Dept, or the year 1971? This site’s for you. Not been updated for a month or so, but the archives are sufficiently large to while away some time. Also, the writer of the posts seems incredibly sarcastic and bitter,...

Scots Law and the Bible
So, the study of law is not entirely without merit, and the legal consequences of everyday actions sometimes just pop unbidden into one’s head. I thought I’d analyse some biblical passages with the help of the law of Scotland, for my own amusement and the enlightenment of the masses*

Narnia Invaded →
This article - albeit slightly long-windedly - sums up my main problems with the new “Narnia” films. I’ve not been to see the third one because Prince Caspian so appallingly warped the book… and not just because I’ve admittedly had a bit of a crush on Peter the fictional character ever since reading the series for the first time.*
The point is that Peter, and...

David Mitchell Looks Back at 2011 →
If only this coming year actually ends up being this exciting…
I won’t review 2011 yet, but a quick personal recap of 2010 for sheer narcissism (hey, this is my blog, after all): Horrendously busy (see the failed picture project, year-in movie reviews, and the fact that I’ve only read one fiction book since the summer holidays [Girl, Interrupted if you’re interested - it...

Things I learned on Christmas Day 2010
It is not wise to pour superglue over your hand, or, indeed, netbook.
Princess and the Frog: epic movie. I laughed, I was surprised, the word ‘philanderer’ was used (good to see Disney aren’t dumbing down from the like of ‘expectorating’!)
My grandpa is most definitely not anti-Jewish (announced over dinner with absolutely no context whatsoever)
It doesn’t...

An Interview With the Nativity Innkeeper →
This is quite funny; worth a read anyway! Click through for more…
It’s said that a star appeared on the night when Jesus was born. Did you see it?
No. I was too busy trying to convince Joseph to rent a crib.
It’s said it was bright enough to lead the Three Wise Men to your inn.
Well, three men showed up at the inn. I don’t know how wise they were.
How do you mean?
The baby is...

French Idioms... isn't language funny?
appuyer sur le champignon - to go very fast, accelerate (lit: to push on the mushroom)

avoir un chat dans la gorge - to have a frog in your throat (lit: to have a cat in your throat)

An important click - the Open Doors Right to... →
Please spare 2 minutes of your Sunday to check out this campaign. All the info is at the link, but basically there’s a motion at the UN that’ll be going through in December to allow States to have control over beliefs in their country, and make persecution of those who don’t believe legal. There’s a petition with 368,000 signatories so far that’s due to end on...

1 Question IQ Test →
I failed… this pretty sums up my day :|
Here’s a one-question IQ Test to help you decide how you should spend the rest of your day … There is a mute who wants to buy a toothbrush. By imitating the action of brushing one’s teeth, he successfully expresses himself to the shopkeeper and the purchase is done. Now, if there is a blind man who wishes to buy a pair of...

Mr T on Total Depravity →
A refreshing take on the first Calvinist doctrine…
Listen up fool! A lot of suckas don’t realize that the natural state of man – the way we was born – is evil! Most fools don’t believe T about this, but that’s why they fools! Romans 3:9-10& 18 says “I have already charged that all men, both Jews and Greeks, are under the power of sin, as it is written: None is righteous, no not one; no...

What to do with prayer-request emails?
This is a question which actually gives me such trouble.
I mean, obviously you can’t delete them immediately after reading. That’s just a recipe for forgetting all about them.
But can you delete them after they’ve hung about for a few days? Or is that pretty much saying “ach, I’ve cared about you enough to pray for a few days, but not so much now”?
If you...
