Saturday Sweets may have returned. Then again, they may not have. I know you were all desperate for them ;) And it’s not as if I have anything better to do today, like revise for my exam that’s in 3.75hours…
Chocolate Cake
Relatively nice; a bit dry perhaps. The different types of icing combine to make it interesting. Easy to eat with your fingers.
Base:
115g marge
1 tbsp syrup
140g self raising flour
2 eggs, beaten
115g sugar
Few drops vanilla essence
30g cocoa
Little milk to mix
Cream together marge, sugar, syrup and vanilla essence until soft and light
Mix together dry ingredients
Stir chocolate mixture and beaten eggs alternatively into marge, with just enough milk to give it a soft consistency
Grease and flour 2 sandwich tins and fill with mixture
Bake at Gas Mark 5 for 25 minutes
Chocolate Butter Icing (middle):
110g butter
200g icing sugar
2 heaped dstsp chocolate powder
Few drops vanilla essence
Cream butter until very soft
Work in sugar and flavouring
Chocolate Glaze (top):
225g icing sugar
1 heaped dstspn cocoa
1.5 dstspns warm water
Acorn-sized knob of butter
Add water gradually to icing sugar

As an alternative, you could try Fudgy Chocolate Cake, or Black Magic Cake

About

I no longer post here, really, except sporadically, so come say hello at Baking and Life

I post what I like and I like what I post. I am a law student, which kills my spare time, but I somehow manage to find time to bake and to knit and to see people. Occasionally. I could pencil you in in about 4 months, perhaps? FYI, I dislike closing paragraphs in html tags. For more about me, try the About Me page
